Bletchley (Manor Road) Cemetery, Manor Road, Fenny Stratford, MK2 2HW
Manor Road Cemetery is the final resting place of 22 casualties from both world wars, many of whom were from the Bletchley and Fenny Stratford area. Amongst those casualties are Gunner William Munday, Royal Field Artillery, who was awarded the Military Medal in 1918 and Flying Officer Leslie Smith, 218 Squadron, RAF who received the Distinguished Flying Cross in the second world war. This year we have the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landing and in this cemetery we also have the grave of Marine Frederick Southwell who died while serving at HMS Robertson, a holding base for landing craft personnel. Frederick was just 18.
As part of Heritage Open Days, please join us for a Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) guided tour of Manor Road Cemetery to hear about the lives of the twenty-two casualties from the First World War and the Second World War buried here, many of who were from the Bletchley and Fenny Stratford area. You will also hear about the history of the CWGC, the organisation set up by Royal Charter in 1917 to ensure that the men and women who died in the service of their country will be remembered forever more.
